Full Recovery: Education helps heal a community from alcoholism

Tribal people are the first to admit that alcoholism is a major health concern throughout Indian Country. On the Lake Traverse Reservation in the northeast corner of South Dakota, however, alcoholism has dropped dramatically in the past decade. Sisseton Wahpeton Community College President Elden Lawrence, Ph.D., has researched the changes in his community, and he thinks that the transformation can be credited to education.
