Emily Colomeda-Fyant has been awarded the prestigious Helen Fuld Fellowship for Leadership in Nursing. A graduate of Salish Kootenai College with an associate degree in nursing, Colomeda-Fyant is now in the RN to BSN program.

She traveled to New York in June with the other 24 awardees for special leadership training. Only 25 fellowships are given nationwide, and it is the first time a SKC graduate has received it. The fellowship program develops leadership in outstanding nursing students who aspire to nursing leadership positions beyond the clinical arena.

Students are mentored throughout the year and a final capstone activity will take place in Washington, DC. The Capstone Retreat in Washington, DC, in October emphasizes health policy from development through passage and implementation. The fellows learn about the importance and process of developing policies that affect nurses and healthcare.
