The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) will be running a number of public outreach and fundraising events during the week of Indian Market August 13-19. IAIA is a fine arts college and museum in Santa Fe, NM, supporting contemporary Native arts.
Highlights of the week include honoring Fritz Scholder, an important contemporary artist who is a member of the founding faculty of IAIA. The Scholder benefit event will take place at the Third Annual Contemporary Indian Art Show and Sale at the museum, 108 Cathedral Place in downtown Santa Fe. The opening reception will be between 5 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, and will be followed by a sponsors-only dinner with Scholder. The cost for the show and reception only is $75, and tickets can be purchased through the 800 number.
Indigenous, a critically acclaimed blues –based rock quartet, will perform at a fundraising concert on Friday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. at the newly renovated Lensic Performing Arts Center in downtown Santa Fe.
