Tamara Montano, a student at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College (FDLTCC), has been named the 2016 recipient of the Community Memorial Hospital Scholarship. Montano, a Cloquet resident originally from Red Cliff, Wisconsin, and a graduate of Bayfield High School, is completing the Practical Nursing Diploma Program during her first year in the college’s nursing associate degree program. Her career goal is to become a registered nurse, with a specific focus on working in a rural healthcare setting.

The Community Memorial Hospital Scholarship is unique in that it was established to enhance the relationship between the college and the hospital in Cloquet, with a goal of fostering an environment where the local healthcare workforce is representative of the communities in which they serve. The scholarship is awarded through a selection process based on criteria that includes professional promise, enrollment in the nursing degree program at FDLTCC, grade point average, and a stated desire to work in Carlton County and focus on rural medicine. The scholarship can be used toward tuition, books, and supplies for the academic year.
