On March 1, Dr. Ginny Carney, president of Leech Lake Tribal College (LLTC, Cass Lake, MN), announced that LLTC has been awarded continuing accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for 10 years.
The award affirms the recommendation provided by an HLC site visit team following a comprehensive evaluation of the college in October 2010 and extends accreditation to include LLTC’s new Associate of Science Degree in Natural Science.
The HLC is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), which is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. HLC accredits degree-granting postsecondary educational institutions in the North Central region.
“This is a tremendous milestone for Leech Lake Tribal College and confirmation that the college is well positioned and well prepared to effectively serve its students in the coming years,” stated Carney.
In preparation for the continuing accreditation visit, LLTC spent the better part of two years conducting a rigorous, top-to-bottom examination that culminated in a self-study report submitted to the HLC. The self-study process assists institutions in identifying both strengths and weaknesses in order to facilitate continuous improvement and also provides evidence to the HLC that the institution is meeting the established criteria for accreditation.
