Diné College Adds New Certificate ProgramsAug 25th, 2015 | By ltapahonso | Category: Online TC News, Tribal College News, Web Exclusive
Diné College has unveiled two new certificate programs for students who want training without the multi-year commitment of a traditional degree program. Students can now enroll in the Navajo Cultural Arts Certificate Program and will have the option of enrolling in the Digital Arts Certificate Program this spring.
Navajo Cultural Arts will enhance and revitalize authentic practices and provide opportunities for Navajo master artisans and “knowledge holders” to share their unique skills with an emerging young generation of artists. Alternatively, the Digital Arts program teaches the basics of graphic arts and graphic art design programs, preparing students for employment in the computer graphics and publishing field. It is also geared for entrepreneurs starting their own businesses. Students follow basic aesthetic principles in creating work and gaining experience in page design, illustration, photography, and web design using professional Adobe programs.
Both programs offer practical training for immediate employment. These academic programs have a lower credit requirement and do not require general education courses. Certificates are stand-alone academic programs that are not designed to transfer to an upper level program of study. These programs are designed to be completed in less than two years of full-time coursework. The two new programs join the four existing certificate programs already offered at the college: the Irrigation Technician Certificate Program, the Navajo Nation Leadership Certificate Program, the Natural Resources Certificate Program, and the Public Health Certificate Program.
