Students from United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) attended the national American Indian Business Leaders (AIBL) conference held at the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico this past April and were triumphant in their competing categories. UTTC placed first in the Portfolio competition. The students were awarded a trophy and received $1,000 for future AIBL activities at UTTC.

Throughout the 2014-2015 academic year UTTC business leaders worked relentlessly to fundraise and embrace AIBL ideals by involving their communities on campus and locally. “We were proud to be highly visible around the campus, displaying our leadership and commitment…We encourage future UTTC AIBL business students to carry on the AIBL tradition,” says Teresa His Chase, AIBL vice president. Fundraisers included 3-on-3 youth basketball tournaments, a cultural food event coined “Tradishes,” and monthly UTTC farmer’s markets where students sold homemade crafts and baked goods.

UTTC students who took part in the AIBL conference included Heather Demaray, Marian Declay, and Lydale Yazzie. UTTC Business Department chair Erik Cutler accompanied the students on their travels.
