Cankdeska Cikana Community College (CCCC, Fort Totten, ND) recently took part in the President’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge. CCCC was the only tribal college or university and sole institution of higher education in North Dakota to participate in the event. This national initiative spearheaded by the Obama administration seeks to bring peoples from diverse faith backgrounds together to promote emergency preparedness and literacy, increase community health and reduce hunger, and find other innovative ways to serve others.
CCCC focused on increasing youth, family, and community engagement. The college also emphasized the value of participating in spiritual activities and improving the well-being of suicide survivors. President Barack Obama commended CCCC and the other colleges and universities for “promoting interfaith community service on college campuses across our country.”
