Grand opening held for UTTC learning center

United Tribes Technical College (UTTC, Bismarck, ND) has opened its new Black Hills Learning Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. It is the college’s first extension site.

In celebration, people from the local community turned out for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included South Dakota governor Dennis Daugaard, Rapid City mayor Sam Kooiker, and UTTC president David M. Gipp. The governor and mayor were presented with original hand-painted gifts by local artist Sonja Holy Eagle. UTTC staffers led tours of the newly renovated facility, owned by Rapid City developer and friend Hani Shafai. The center enhances the educational opportunities for the Rapid City community.

Statistics indicate that curricula UTTC offers is needed in the Rapid City. The new learning center boasts a computer lab with state-of-the-art equipment. “We are here because we have a cultural, spiritual and economic calling,” stated Phil Baird, UTTC Vice-President of Academic, Career and Technical Education.
