United Tribes Technical College President David Gipp received an honorary doctorate degree from North Dakota State University during spring 1990 commencement.
The degree was awarded during graduation ceremonies held May 26 at the Fargo, North Dakota campus.
Gipp has been president of United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck since 1977. The institution offers technical training for Native Americans from North Dakota and across the nation.
During his tenure the college grew to include a child development center and a $500,000 gymnasium. Founded in 1969, the college also gained North Central accreditation in 1982 and technical degree status in 1987.
President Gipp’s national leadership in Native American education was also noted by the nominating board. He was one of the founders of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium and was its first executive director.
