The Land Grant Tribal College: Tribally controlled colleges may seek status as land grant institutions

In the past twenty-five years, colleges and uni­versities from Washington, D.C. to American Samoa have been designated as land grant institutions providing programs ranging from community development to small business administration. Now tribal colleges are wondering if they should also pursue land grant status, a step that would acknowledge their unique service to reservations and make them eligi­ble for participation in valuable federal programs.
