In the past twenty-five years, colleges and universities from Washington, D.C. to American Samoa have been designated as land grant institutions providing programs ranging from community development to small business administration. Now tribal colleges are wondering if they should also pursue land grant status, a step that would acknowledge their unique service to reservations and make them eligible for participation in valuable federal programs.
