Tribal Colleges Go On the AirNov 15th, 1994 | By tcj | Category: 6-3: Philanthropy, Tribal College News
Tribal colleges will soon be linked together with satellite technology, thanks to a grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
The $447,615 grant will allow the colleges to purchase equipment needed to receive programming sent through satellites and construct classrooms where telecourses can be viewed.
The purchase of telecommunication equipment is the most recent step taken by the colleges to establish a state-of-the-art distance learning network. Through telecommunications, all tribal colleges can share courses and expertise.
The next phase of the project calls for the installation of equipment which will allow the colleges to not only receive programming produced elsewhere, but also send video, sound and information from each campus. Ultimately, this means that students at one college will be able to see, hear and interact with a teacher hundreds or thousands of miles away.
