D-Q University plans a year long celebration of its 25th anniversary, including the Second Annual Big Time on Memorial Day weekend. D-Q has invited tribes from throughout the state of California to the campus ceremonial grounds to celebrate their survival and acknowledge their ties to their homeland.
Unique among the American Indian colleges, the D-Q campus is located in Davis, California, and has seven satellite sites elsewhere in California. Last fall it served 185 Indian students from 86 tribes (mostly tribes in California), as well as 105 non-Indians. The anniversary year will include speakers, workshops, and seminars, involving some of the people who have been part of D-Q history such as Jane Fonda, U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Dennis Banks, Thomas Banyacya, Floyd Westerman, Oren Lyons, Richard Garcia, and Jose Delalisa.
D-Q University President Dr. Francis Becenti (a graduate of Navajo Community College) will address the future of the institution. D-Q is a two year college offering 10 associate degrees and 13 vocational certificates. The D-Q home page address is http://dcn.davis.ca.us/~jariggen/dqhome.html.
