Stone Child Building Center

Stone Child College has broken ground for a community cultural center, which will be named “Sitting Old Woman Center” to honor the Indian name of the late Peggy Nagel. The founding president of the college, Nagel died in December 1994.

According to College President Luanne Belcourt, the new facility will house the Small Business Center, Tribal Resource Center, Distance Learning Center and Computerized Language Lab, Science Lab, and a conference room. Stone Child is located on the Rocky Boy Reservation in Montana.

Stone Child College was designated the lead institution in a National Science Foundation project to facilitate access to the Internet for all the tribal colleges. The project will be part of the colleges’ telecommunications and distance learning efforts.
