Work began this summer on a 27,526 square foot addition to Fort Berthold Community College in New Town, N.D. The Three Affiliated Tribes took out a $2.5 million loan to pay for the work, which represents the second phase of the college’s construction project. The addition will house classroom spaces, administrative offices, book store, student lounge, nursing department, science laboratory, carpentry department, and the farm/ranch department. When the construction is completed, it will double the space at the college, according to College President Karen Gillis (Arikara).

A recent article in the Minot Daily News credited the college, the Three Affiliated Tribes, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Indian Health Service for an economic growth spurt on the reservation.
