Oglala College Outlasts Skeptics

There were many skeptics both on and off the Pine Ridge Reservation when the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council authorized planning for a reservation based college. “They said the population was too small, the economic conditions too bad, and it was too much work to start a college. They thought we were dreaming,” says Lowel Amiotte (Oglala Lakota), a former president of the college which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. TCJ PAID CONTENT
