Several graduates of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) were honored in June 2010 by the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA). Two won Residency Fellowships: Jason Reed Brown (Koyukon Athabascan) and Peterson Yazzie (Diné). Reed Brown is a blacksmith who has been featured in various American Indian art exhibitions and commissioned, award-winning sculptures. A painter, Yazzie’s artwork (“Birth of the Water Clans”) appeared on the cover of TCJ, Vol. 17, No. 1. Kenneth Williams (Arapaho/Seneca) received a Discovery Fellowship. He is a beadworker who was born into this artistic tradition on both his father’s and his mother’s families.
