The evaluation team for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NCA) visited Haskell Indian Nations University on March 2-4, 1998, and recommended that Haskell receive continued accreditation. The NCA team also recommended that Haskell be accredited to offer three additional baccalaureate degree programs in American Indian Studies, Business Administration, and Environmental Science, in addition to Haskell’s current offering of several associate’s degrees and a baccalaureate degree in elementary teacher education. Commission approval of the team’s recommendations was expected by August 1998.
Members of the NCA evaluation team noted that Haskell has established a number of collaborative agreements with the University of Kansas, tribal colleges, and other colleges and universities which strengthen and expand Haskell ‘s total educational resources in creative and helpful ways. The team also commended Haskell’s commitment to maintaining and preserving identity with Indian culture, as expressed in the university mission statement and as understood and supported throughout the institution. The team’s view was that this cohesive sense of commitment and purpose provides a unique identity and impetus for planning and for future development of the university as a whole.
Haskell has been accredited since 1979 with the NCA/CIHE, 30 North LaSalle Street, Chicago IL 60602 (313) 263-0456.The team recommended that the next comprehensive visit to Haskell be scheduled in seven years (2004 -2005).
