John Serrie
1998. Miramar

Review by Tom Eggers, Turtle Mountain Community College Librarian

Spirit Keepers is a pleasing, ambient journey through the Native flute, featuring the instrumentation of John Serrie joined with the traditional harmonies of John Winterhawk Johnson and Tom Walks in Dreams Goodman.

Although the content of this album is routine in its consistency, Spirit Keepers provides a pleasant blend of the Native musical traditions with New Age diffusive mastering. If a listener is searching for a representation of historical styles, they may find Spirit Keepers lacking, but for those who yearn for a relaxing musical journey, Serrie and his compatriots fit the bill.
